As I read your books, "Briars" and "The Intangibles File" you took me back to the past and painted a lovely picture. I lived every page with your characters as if I were there. That's what I call a great author. "Intangibles" was a smooth flow from "Briars." I love a mystery and this one held me until the very last page. Thanks for two well-written books. I love them both and you for writing them.

If you love action and romance, Briars fits the bill! This book is a must-read for all historical romance book lovers. It combines a fast-paced plot with a genuine feel of what the Old South must have been like. It has likable, believable characters - and several very unlikeable, equally believable characters - to provide plenty of action. I read it while on vacation, and read the first half in one sitting.

Briars: House of Heirs by Ann Gray is a compelling read. Once you start you won't want to put it down. Set in the romantic Old South, we meet and love the Heirs family. We see them all caught in the twists and tangles of the War Between the States...Each character is well drawn. The plot well woven, The action, amazing and large as life. I loved it.

New Stories from the Old South
Briars: The House of Heirs (Paperback)

On November 15, 1864, Briars is occupied by a battle seasoned detachment of Sherman's Union Army led by young, inexperienced Lieutenant Shane Alexander Moss on his first field command.

Entrusted to him in Sherman's own hand are written orders similar to those of other burning teams. They are to burn every structure within five miles of wherever they are billeted for the night before rendezvousing for Sherman's March to the Sea.

Essentially alone and unprotected in the only occupied house for miles around, the Heirs women experience numbing, gruesome tragedy after occupying soldiers turn on their young leader.

The men never realize that advantage is shifting as the Mistress of Briars, her daughters, her fifteen year old son, and an old Negro man plot to wage their own private war against the intruders.

Thus begins a life and death contest within Briars' surrounding hawthorn hedges.
